At Keystone we offer a wide variety of fireproof safes. It can be difficult to distinguish between the different types of safes when all of the specifications APPEAR to be the same. Our rating scale helps you to take the construction quality into consideration when deciding on a fireproof safe.

"Best" Safes

All Steel construction, inside and outside

All bolt work fastens into steel walls when the door is locked

Fire Rating of at least One (1) hour

Water-Resistance is standard, which means you are protected from fire hoses and sprinklers

Warranty includes parts and labor

Commercial-Grade hinges for longevity

Highest quality locks whether digital or dial combination

Manufacturer has been making safes at least 20 years

Overall: Extremely solid, durable, and will last a lifetime

"Better" Safes

All Steel construction outside, some interior may be plastic

All bolt work fastens into steel walls when the door is locked

Fire Rating of at least One (1) hour

Water-Resistance only if noted in the description

Warranty may include labor, but some are parts only

Commercial-Grade hinges for longevity

Highest quality locks whether digital or dial combination

Manufacturer has been making safes at least 10 years

Overall: Pretty solid with minor durability issues, but will last a lifetime with care

"Good" Safes

Mostly steel construction outside, interior is mostly plastic

All bolt work fastens into plastic (NOT steel) when door is locked. Some items (such as chests and files) do not have bolt work at all.

Fire Rating may be lower than one (1) hour; not for commercial use

Water-Resistance only if noted in the description

Warranty may include labor, but some are parts only

Residential-Grade hinges will not last as long or be as smooth

Locks are of mid quality

Manufacturer has been making safes at least 10 years

Overall: For the budget-minded customer; not meant to last a lifetime
